The owners of an Orange County farm face neglect charges after hundreds of animals were seized Saturday.
Officials say around 200 animals were seized after they were found in horrific conditions at a barn located off of Route 416 in Hamptonburgh. The animals were starving, some had diseases and some were lying dead outside.
"This is the worst case we've seen on a farm as of yet," says Humane Law Enforcement Chief Gene Hecht.
The barn that the animals were kept in was also being used as a slaughterhouse. Officials say they found animal parts laying inside the barn, a hook for hanging the animals and a chainsaw still covered in blood.
The owners of the animals operate two grocery stores in Newburgh.
This isn't the first such incident at this farm. Last year, a woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges for not properly feeding horses.
