A fire broke out Thursday at a building in Yonkers, causing several road closures, according to the Yonkers Fire Department.
Officials say the fire started in the roof area of the top floor of the building that has multiple apartment units inside.
Due to fire department activity on Van Cortlandt Park Avenue, Elm Street was closed between Walnut and Prescott streets. Van Cortlandt Park Avenue was also closed between Spruce and Elm streets.
Fire officials say a family was at home at the time, and everyone quickly evacuated.
There is some water damage inside the building, so residents were not able to return right away.
The cause is still under investigation.
