Over 80 people, including 38 children, are currently homeless after a fire in a Yonkers apartment building Sunday evening.
Yonkers fire officials say the call came in just before 7 p.m. Sunday, and crews arrived on the scene to find heavy flames on the top floor of 149 North Broadway.
Cellphone video from a News 12 viewer shows heavy smoke coming from the top floor of the building.
Everyone was able to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported.
Officials tell News 12 there were about 60 firefighters working the flames, and they were able to get the fire out fairly quickly. The ladder trucks had to expand to get water to the top of the five-story building. There was heavy fire damage on the top floor, and water damage throughout the building.
Ten families consisting of 48 adults and 38 children had to be relocated. The Yonkers Office of Emergency Management helped the families and put them all in the Yonkers Police Athletic League building.
Investigators say they are still looking into the exact cause, but say it appears to be accidental.
Tenants were able to return Monday to get their valuables, medications and pets.
