Police rushed to Roaring Brook Road Saturday afternoon after reports of a vehicle stuck on the tracks just before 11 a.m. Saturday.
A car was waiting near the tracks when the crossing gate came down on top of it, according to police. The driver then backed up and the gate broke off.
No one was hurt.
"These gates are meant to break away," says New Castle Supervisor Rob Greenstein. "Who knows, they might have saved a life today."
This comes just days after Reps. Nita Lowey and Sean Patrick Maloney held a press conference at the exact same spot pushing for safer rail crossings.
Westchester County records indicate that 490 accidents have occurred at the intersection since 2006.
