Five residents and two firefighters were injured in a Yonkers apartment fire Saturday afternoon.

Tenants of the Hawthorne Avenue apartment say the fire moved quickly and destroyed everything in their home.

"It was just so fast," said Evelyn Chebbak. "The whole room was caught on fire so I ran, got my cell phone, called 911 and started screaming 'fire' so people would get out of the building."

Assistant Yonkers Fire Chief Robert Hacaj says there was heavy fire on the first floor when they arrived.

Officials say the fire moved to the second and third floors and it took more than 45 firefighters about 50 minutes to get the fire under control.

Officials say seven people received minor injuries and about 25 people are likely displaced because of the fire.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The Office of Emergency Management is also helping displaced residents with temporary shelter.
