The quick actions of a Westchester County police officer saved a 15-year-old boy from the path of an oncoming car Friday morning.
Police say Officer Paul DeSousa was called to the southbound lanes of the Saw Mill River Parkway for a report of a teenager walking on the roadway. As the officer spoke with the 15-year-old, a car veered out of control on the icy parkway.
Officer DeSousa threw the teen over the hood of his car to avoid being hit, and consequently took the hit himself.
DeSousa, a military veteran, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The female driver who hit the officer did stop at the scene. She is not facing any charges at this time.
