The New York State Bridge Authority held a meeting over a plan to upgrade the Bear Mountain Bridge.
Construction on the 100-year-old bridge is expected to start next spring.
The NYS Bridge Authority wants to replace the deck, widen sidewalks, upgrade the concrete barriers and build climb-deterrent fencing.
A half dozen community members came to the meeting to also stress the need to install devices that will save lives on the bridge by preventing suicides.
Among those there, a Cortlandt Manor mother, Lorraine Lein, who lost her son on the bridge in June 2023.
"All the cameras, all the things, the notes and everything, it doesn't do anything. What you need is a barrier on the bridge," says Lein.
News 12 asked the Bridge Authority if those barriers would definitely installed. News 12 was told there's no timeline for that part of the project and that final approval would come from the Board of Commissioners.
