Rescuers with New York's Air National Guard answered the call of duty this week in storm-ravaged Texas.
Capt. Brian Flanagan, of the 105th Air Wing, Air National Guard, said they received a call Friday afternoon. By Friday evening, they had two crews and three aircraft ready to go.
The crew flew to Long Island Saturday and picked up Guardsmen for New York's rescue operation in Houston.
Two teams from Newburgh are still currently deployed to transport food, equipment and medical personnel to the hardest hit areas.
"We're always ready for this. Not only wartime efforts, but humanitarian efforts are our emphasis,” said Flanagan.
