Morris Park neighborhood patrols were forced to remove decals from their cars Sunday because the NYPD claims they look too similar to police shields.
Members of the Morris Park Community Association say they are confused by the police department?s request to remove the stickers because the decals have depicted the same symbol for nearly 30 years.
A police department spokesperson says the decision was made to protect the safety of residents. According to the NYPD, harm could be brought to the residents if they are mistaken for police officers.
The Morris Park Community Association says it will hold a public hearing to discuss the issue and it will invite representatives from the police department so a new symbol can be approved. A date has not been set.
