A memorial exhibition is now on display at the Eli Klein Gallery for Christina Yuna Lee, who police say was brutally stabbed to death by a stranger who followed her into her apartment building.
The exhibit is dedicated to honor Lee's life and legacy and to have her remembered for something than her killing. The 35-year-old was an associate director at the West Village Art Gallery for four years.
Her former boss, Eli Klein, says she painted his favorite brand of Chinese cigarettes as a gift just before she left. He says the painting is a reminder that she helped him quit smoking and of her kindness to others.
The memorial exhibit was created on the two-month anniversary of Lee's slaying. It will be on display throughout the month of May for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
Phil Zheng Cai is a partner at the gallery, which focuses on Asian contemporary art from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other Asian countries. He says the continuing rash of violence against the Asian community is alarming.
Christina Yuna Lee's exhibit runs until June 5.
