(AP) -- Health officials say the last Ebola patient in the U.S. has recovered, an emergency room doctor in New York City who had been treating patients in Guinea.
Dr. Craig Spencer was released from Bellevue Hospital on Tuesday at a joyous news conference where medical team members were cheering and hooting. It happened 19 days after he was diagnosed with the virus.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife both hugged the 33-year-old doctor, who smiled and drank water from the podium. His parents were in the audience.
De Blasio called Spencer a hero. The physician had been working with Doctors Without Borders.
