A long-stalled bipartisan bill sponsored by two New York congressmen is now on the way to the president's desk.

The bill, creating a special envoy for the Abraham Accords, just passed the Senate.

The accords normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations.

Republican Rep. Mike Lawler, from Rockland, and Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres, from the Bronx, first introduced the legislation back in February.

Their bill passed in the House but stalled in the Senate until now, when it was included in the annual defense policy bill.

Lawler and Torres hope the position will help bring Saudi Arabia to peace talks and ultimately make New Yorkers safer.

If the president signs the bill, he would appoint the ambassador-level position and the Senate would confirm the appointee.
