(AP) -- New York's attorney general says federal safety regulators will need to conduct a new analysis into the effects of a devastating accident, should there ever be one at a nuclear power plant north of New York City.

Attorney General Eric Scheneiderman says the Nuclear Regulatory Commission ruled Wednesday that regulators used the wrong data in an earlier analysis of the economic impact of a possible accident at the Indian Point nuclear power plant. His office had appealed an earlier administrative ruling about the data. Indian Point is about 24 miles from New York City.

The board said the earlier analysis contained "material factual errors" that could be misleading.

Wednesday's ruling comes as New York officials challenge Indian Point's efforts to renew its federal licenses for two nuclear reactors.

A spokeswoman for Entergy said the company would cooperate with the NRC analysis.
