A Highland Falls man died and his passenger was injured after an accident on Route 22 in Goldens Bridge Tuesday.

Police believe the crash occurred when one vehicle attempted to pass another. Police say 49-year-old Joseph Ciccarelli was ejected from his SUV during the accident and pronounced dead at the scene. Police say Ciccarelli was not wearing a seat belt. His passenger, 55-year-old Dennis Papa, of Goldens Bridge, was transported to Westchester Medical Center with a severe hand injury. The driver of the other car, 45-year-old Isabell Wolff of Brewster, was not injured.

Police say there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident although the investigation is continuing.
