If you're a New Yorker who is thinking of heading to the Garden State to purchase legal marijuana, there are a few things you need to know first.
Michael Bass, of Abrams Fensterman Health Law Group, says because of current federal laws, you need to use the marijuana while you are still in New Jersey.
"Bringing the marijuana or cannabis back to New York, depending on how much you're bringing back, you can face anywhere from five to 40 years in prison.
There's a dozen dispensaries open in New Jersey with Ascend in Rochelle Park being the closest to Rockland County.
You also need to be over 21 to buy legal cannabis, so make sure to have your ID.
"We are excited to have New Yorkers here," says Mike Conway, of Ascend. "Come on in."
Conway says so far about 10% of customers are from outside the state.
