Looks like the waves in Mount Vernon are gone for the summer now that a popular wave pool must undergo extensive repairs

County officials say problems have plagued Willson’s Woods Park pool since the start of the season and it turns out it's not a quick fix.

As they were filling up the wave pool, crews discovered leaking and cracks. At first they thought the problems was one pipe below ground, and there was hope they'd be able to fix it and get it up and running at some point this summer.

But county officials say once crews dug underground, they found out there was a bigger problem and they just wouldn't be able to repair in time for this season.

There are still ways to cool off at the park. People can still use the spray deck, the aqua playground, and the water slide.

But of course, the kids are disappointed they won't be able to jump into the pool to do some body surfing on those waves. “Kind of like sadness because without the waves, it’s like no enjoyment to the park,” says Sheyenne Davis, of Mount Vernon.

The good news is that the fee at Willson’s Woods has been waived to get in to use the slide and the other water features.

Unfortunately there are issues with some of Westchester County’s other places to swim.

Croton Point Park is under construction and only open on weekends.

Playland Beach is closed for renovation, according to its operator Standard Amusements.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer says only one county beach is open right now during the week - Glen Island, open Monday through Friday. The county waives fees Mondays through Thursdays.

The Saxon Woods pool in White Plains, and the pools at Sprain Ridge and Tibbets Brook Park in Yonkers are all open.
