Nonprofits across Westchester are sitting on pins and needles after hearing the news that the county is running a $17 million budget shortfall in its $1.8 billion spending plan.
On Monday, the county's budget director suggested to county lawmakers that funding for nonprofit agencies could be used to close the gap.
County officials say while they understand the fears of nonprofits, at this point, they have no plans to cut their funding.
While county officials are not worried, nonprofits are scared their budgets may be slashed. The group Nonprofit Westchester is an umbrella group for dozens of nonprofits that relies on county subsidies.
"Our members are concerned, but we believe the county leadership will come up with a solution to revenue challenge," said Joanna Straub, of Nonprofit Westchester.
