Former board members of the nonprofit Nepperhan Community Center, Inc. declared during a meeting last week that it is now defunct.
News 12 has learned the City of Yonkers will soon taken over operation of the Warburton Avenue facility.
One Yonkers resident expressed disappointment about what happened to the community center.
"I feel that it's a shame that they didn't do anything. They knew it was going downhill, they knew it was not being run the right way, and they just sat back and let it go because they didn't want it to be here. It's the only thing we have," said Kay Lee.
The City of Yonkers currently owns the Nepperhan Community Center building.
In an interview, Mayor Mike Spano told News 12 that the city will take operation of the center away from the nonprofit, Nepperhan Community Center, Inc.
Spano promises that the facility will remain open and continue to offer public service programs.
