New York City is warning it will need to furlough or lay off employees, including essential workers, if it doesn't not get federal stimulus funding.
Mayor Bill de Blasio says the city has already lost $7.4 billion during this crisis. “People are either acting on furloughs and layoffs or preparing for furloughs and layoffs of the exact people who have been the heroes in this crisis. No stimulus, no revenue, no recovery. And it only gets worse.”
New York City has more than 300,000 full-time employees across a number of agencies, including the NYPD, the Department of Education and the FDNY.
