(AP) - A ground search of wooded, mountainousterrain has found no crash site after several witnesses said theysaw a plume of smoke coming from a small plane around HarrimanState Park in Haverstraw.
No missing or overdue flights had been reported by 5 p.m.Tuesday, said Eileen Larrabee of the state parks department.
However, searchers worked all day on foot and on all-terrainvehicles. She said trucks with headlights would be used after dark. Helicopters were grounded by bad weather.
The reports of a falling plane came in Monday night. Jim Petersof the Federal Aviation Administration said some sort of aircraftwent off the radar Monday night. But it may have just been flyinglow, or may have gone someplace else.
