The Village of Nyack officially unveiled its newly improved playground at Memorial Park on Friday.
"There is no better day in a mayor's life than when he or she gets to open a playground for kids, like this is the best,” said Village Mayor Joe Rand.
The play area has a new swing set, equipment made for toddlers, a blue safety surface and ADA-compliant walkways that surround the whole space.
Mayor Rand said all are welcome, “The Nyack Memorial Park, unlike a lot of parks in the county area, is open to everybody. You can come. You don't have to be from Nyack.”
The project was possible through federal dollars given out by the county to the village – totaling $795,000.
News 12 spoke with families out together.
"I think it's amazing," said Naudia, from Central Nyack, who was with her daughter Felicity. "For her age, right now, she's crawling a lot, so it's really nice to have this softer surface."
"We love it. We couldn't be more ecstatic about it,” said Tom, who was there with his family, and just moved to the area a few months ago.
"He's such a playground boy,” said Kate. “Now that we have one we can take him to every weekend - it's awesome."
But that’s not all, the great lawn is also currently being restored.
That work is expected to be done by September.
