Newburgh Enlarged City Schools are facing a multimillion-dollar budget deficit next year.

The district released its proposed $365.8 million spending plan for 2024-25, which includes a $16.4 million shortfall.

According to budget documents on the district’s website, the gap is partly because of decreased state and federal funding, combined with added salaries from more than two dozen jobs created with pandemic funds.

The budget calls for the use of some reserve funds to balance the proposed spending plan, and the district says it’s reevaluating staffing needs.

Administration has until March 5 to update the district Board of Education on tax cap calculations.

The district did not return News 12's inquiries Friday for additional information.
