An underground sinkhole discovered this week in Orange County is causing safety and financial concerns.
Crumbled brick can be seen in a hidden sinkhole beneath Water Street in Newburgh. It was found during an unrelated check of the sewer lines Wednesday.
Officials met Friday at the two-block waterfront stretch. They plan on digging up the newly paved road Monday to determine the damage.
Meanwhile, the area has been closed off from traffic and a state of emergency has been declared. Direct access to businesses is shut off and officials aren't sure how they'll foot the bill.
