The Newburgh Goldbacks are back home in the Hudson Valley after competing in the Class AA New York state championships in Syracuse over the weekend.
The varsity football team played the Buffalo Bennett Tigers at the JMA Wireless Dome Sunday.
The final score was Bennett 42-Goldbacks 8.
They didn’t win, but head coach William Bianco said it was an honor for the team just being there.
“It didn’t go as well as we would’ve liked, but I thought the kids played hard and they represented as well,” said Bianco. “I couldn’t ask for anything more. A win would’ve been great, but as far as their effort goes, I was happy with them.”
Newburgh was one of two schools out of 70 competing for the Class AA title. It’s the district’s third time making it to the state finals since 2009.
