The New York Blood Center has issued an urgent call for Type O+ and O- blood donations.
The center said the current inventory of Type O blood is the lowest it's been since the early days of the pandemic.
They're now calling on the community to donate blood because it's impacting local hospitals.
It's a task that is further complicated because of the summer, according to Andrea Cefarelli, the senior vice president of the center.
"The summer is a difficult time because we all have better things to do then give blood. We're going on vacation, kids are finally on school break, we have [the] Fourth of July holiday, we're heading to Labor Day and we're enjoying the summer," Cefarelli said. "So, we hope that people will fill a blood bag before they fill their travel bag and save a life."
