Broadway is looking ahead to another year of live entertainment after a grand reopening in 2021, even as the COVID-19 surge is making for uncertain and difficult times once again.
It's a new year on Broadway, but theaters will welcome back many familiar faces and revivals of old favorites.
Beanie Feldstein takes on the iconic role of Fanny Brice in the first Broadway production of "Funny Girl” since the musical debuted with Barbra Streisand in the role back in 1964. It is far from the only show making a return visit to Broadway.
Married couple Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker will play three different couples in "Plaza Suite" -- the Neil Simon comedy coming back to Broadway after some 50 years. It was to have its first preview in March of 2020, but Broadway shut down the day before.
MJ The Musical based on the life of pop icon Michael Jackson is currently in previews, expecting to open this winter.
"The Music Man" with Hugh Jackman is scheduled to resume previews Jan. 6 after the star contracted COVID-19, forcing some canceled shows.
COVID-19 cases among cast and crew have forced Broadway stages to frequently go dark in recent weeks. Broadway is hoping to keep the lights bright in 2022, while facing a still lingering pandemic that had shut it down for so long.
