A New Rochelle school is looking to breathe new life into education by teaching teachers and staff members CPR and first aid techniques after a string of violence rocked the school.

At least one police car has been stationed outside of New Rochelle High School every day for the past two months. This is after a 16-year-old student was stabbed to death off campus back in January.

Teachers want parents and students to know that the district is not defined by the events that happened in the past. The focus now is on saving lives.

"This is back to normal," says Assistant Principal Joseph Starvaggi. "Back to what our concerns are: teaching, really helping kids how to be good citizens and now even protecting them."

Teachers say they hope training events like this one will help to empower the district.
