An 84-year-old driver lost control of her car, crossed the double yellow lines, struck a fire hydrant and rolled over a pedestrian in New Rochelle Thursday afternoon, police say.
The female victim was waiting at a bus stop near Lincoln Avenue. She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx in serious condition.
Viviana Torres, in whose yard the car eventually came to a stop, says she heard a series of bangs.
"You knew something bad had happened," she told News 12, gesturing toward the damage. "The bench is gone, the fence -- the car was there."
Torres says the victim remained conscious after the crash but was bleeding from her arms and legs.
Police say the crash looks like an accident, and that no drugs or alcohol were involved.
