A New Rochelle man has died while hiking on Mount Rainier in Washington state.
Brian Grobois was a prominent psychiatrist. His family says he was out snowshoeing on Sunday and reported him missing when they didn?t hear from him on Monday. The 54-year-old was spotted from a rescue helicopter hours later, but the rough terrain and darkness made any rescue impossible.
Grobois was taken off the mountain by a search team after two bone-chilling nights. Temperatures at the mountain fell to just 14 degrees Sunday night. He was air-lifted to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead from severe hypothermia. The News Tribune of Tacoma says officials say Grobois appeared to be dead for about 24 hours before his body was recovered but are still not sure the events that led to his death.
Grobois is survived by his wife Susan and their three children.
