New Rochelle keeps city pool open late amid heat
County residents kept cool in their pools Wednesday as a heat advisory was in effect across parts of Westchester, but some had to rely on public places to beat the heat.
In New Rochelle, children packed Lincoln Pool amid 90-degree heat. The city's Department of Parks and Recreation extended operating hours there for an hour due to the high temperatures.
"I couldn't stand when the pool was closed on hot days," says pool director Robert Bynum, who grew up in the city. "Even though it was open during the day, we wanted a little bit more."
