The new emergency sirens around the Indian Point nuclear plant passed their second test Wednesday after officially going online.
The sirens have to go through one more test before federal officials give their final approval. According to Entergy, three of the 172 sirens did not sound during testing. The ones that failed were in Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties.
Construction delays and technical problems kept the new sirens from going online for more than a year and a half. An older siren system will be in place for at least another year as a backup.
