Police departments in Rockland County are releasing more information following an incident that raised concerns after four juveniles were found safe and unharmed.
According to Spring Valley police, parents reported their 12-year-old daughter missing Sunday. They told officers they received a call from a foreign phone number, with the caller claiming to have their daughter and demanding $1,000 for her return.
Federal and local law enforcement agencies worked together to find her.
Spring Valley police have since confirmed that the 12-year-old girl, along with three other juveniles from Clarkstown who were missing, were located at a home on Johnson Street in Spring Valley. Authorities say all four juveniles knew one another, were not being held against their will and were found safe and unharmed.
People living in the area where the juveniles were found told News 12 they were unaware of what had happened.
Clarkstown police say one juvenile had been reported missing to their department last week, but they had not received missing persons reports for the two others. They will not be releasing any more information.
There are still unanswered questions, including how the juveniles know one another, details about the home where they were found and the ransom call. Spring Valley police say more information will be shared as it becomes available.
