A Rockland County restaurant owner is back making pizza where it all began for him.
Tom Doran is the new owner of Napoli's Pizza on Germonds Road in New City. He actually worked there in the 1990s as a teenager when it was called DiNoto Pizza. He even has a picture hanging in the restaurant to prove it.
After high school, Doran attended the Culinary Institute of America in Dutchess County, then owned Napoli's and another restaurant in Rockland County for a few years, before traveling through Europe as a chef in the early 2000s.
Doran says he is happy to be back running the pizza spot and seeing old faces.
"They're stopping by saying 'Oh my God. It's you. After all these years. Where ya been? How ya doing?' They're very happy I'm back. Trying my new food. My new ideas. It's incredible," he says.
To mark his return, Doran is serving up a "homecoming special" Sunday through Thursday in March, by pick up and delivery only.
For those who live within 1 mile, a pie will cost $10, which was the same price as it was when he was a teenager.
All other customers will get 10% off their order.
