Firefighters in New City are rallying around one of their own who is in critical condition with the flu.
Assistant Fire Chief Richard Willows told News 12 that 19-year old probationary firefighter Will McCue is on dialysis after suffering from lung and kidney complications.
“It’s devastating to see how fast this flu is kicking in and attacking people,” he said.
McCue reportedly fell ill a few days ago at the firehouse. Willows said within a day or two he was in the hospital. Fellow firefighters and the community came together to create a GoFundMe page to raise money for medical expenses.
"It's obviously going to be devastating monetarily-wise for the family, but we're going to help as much as we can," Willows said.
McCue is one of 689 confirmed cases to date of the flu, according to Rockland officials.
