A New City couple has pleaded guilty to killing the man’s 85-year-old grandfather and hiding the body in a crawl space in the victim’s home.
The Rockland District Attorney’s Office says Constantinos Doonan, 32, admitted to second degree murder and Jo-Ann Haughey, 27, admitted to manslaughter in County Court.
Authorities say they strangled Constantinos Mastakouris in 2023 at his home on Ruth Drive.
The remains were not recovered until two months later.
Authorities say in those two months, the couple stole and possessed the victim’s car, jewelry, and credit card. They say the couple lived with their two children and other family members in the house, where the corpse remained hidden, wrapped in a tablecloth and other materials.
Sentencing is set for December.
Doonan is expected to be sentenced to 20 years to life in state prison. Haughey is expected to be sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
