Quick-thinking police officers saved a Chappaqua man from a heroin overdose Tuesday night.
New Castle Police Officer Arthur Mendoza says a woman called 911 to report her 30-year-old friend had overdosed on heroin at a home in Chappaqua. Mendoza and his partner arrived at the house and administered Naxolone to the victim.
Naxolone is a drug that reverses the effects of opium-based drugs. Mendoza says he received hours of training on how to use it. This is the first time the department used Naxolone on a call. The victim regained consciousness within minutes.
Police do not believe the woman who made the call was using drugs, but the Good Samaritan state law would have protected her from prosecution if she was.
