The annual Walk Into The Light, an event raising awareness about mental health, is expanding this year, with a new community joining the movement.
The event, now in its sixth year, was started by Brian Halloran and his family in memory of their son, Brian, who died by suicide while away at college in 2018.
Halloran founded the Break the Hold Foundation to promote open conversations about mental health concerns.
Last year's walk drew a record crowd of nearly 900 people. This year, the neighboring community of Chappaqua is partnering with the organization for a simultaneous walk in the downtown area.
"In conjunction with Break the Hold, we're planning together, buying T-shirts, insurance, working with the government," Halloran said. "New Castle and Chappaqua is going to have a walk simultaneous to us."
Both walks will begin at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.
