Day two of a murder trial is underway in Rockland County Court in New City for the man accused of strangling his girlfriend to death.
Nixon Bourguignon, 37, is charged in the strangling death of his girlfriend Shannon Coleman at the apartment they shared in May 2014. The lawyers for Burguignon admit he strangled Coleman, but they claim he was under the influence of the sleep aid Ambien and was not aware of what he was doing.
Today, the jury heard from the lead detective and two co-workers of Coleman. The detective testified Bourguignon appeared drowsy when first questioned, but that he appeared more alert later. The two co-workers of Coleman's said Bourguignon appeared upset earlier in the day when they spoke to him on the phone. They testified Coleman had thrown him out of the house they shared a few days earlier.
The prosecutors are trying to prove Bourguignon killed Coleman because he was angry over the break up of their relationship.
