A reported sexual assault at a Westchester County train station turned out to have never taken place, according to authorities.
Police were initially investigating a report that a woman had been attacked at the Mount Vernon East Metro-North station on Wednesday. However, MTA officials now tell News 12 that the woman was emotionally distraught.
The officials say a passerby came upon the woman, who was apparently distraught, and incorrectly reported it to Mount Vernon police as a possible assault. Police reported the sexual assault over the radio around 1 p.m.
Because the woman was physically on the station platform when she was found, the case was handed over to MTA police for investigation.
MTA police then interviewed the woman, who never claimed to be sexually assaulted or attacked in any way.
Officials say a review of security footage from the scene corroborates that no such incident occurred.
