A former Mount Vernon officer was arraigned on drug-related forgery charges Monday morning.
Investigators say that from 2011 to 2013, Joseph Russo, 48, stole prescription pads from his doctor and then submitted false prescriptions to get 3,800 hydrocodone pills.
He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted on forgery charges.
Last year, Russo was suspended without pay from the Mount Vernon police force after being charged with filing false overtime claims.
The 15-year veteran was acquitted of those charges but was not reinstated.
