Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young rolled up his sleeves Friday and helped Department of Public Works crews make the streets a little "greener."

DPW crews were out filling in potholes with a new product called GreenPatch. GreenPatch was developed and is produced by RCA, an asphalt manufacturer based in Mount Vernon. The city is the first in Westchester County to switch over from cold mix asphalt.

GreenPatch does not contain diesel or other toxins. The manufacturer says it is biodegradable and made from plant oils.

"It is eco-friendly and we have [a] strong commitment to green. It's cost effective and most importantly it's manufactured right here in the city of Mount Vernon," Mayor Young says.

GreenPatch is also cheaper than regular asphalt, which helps the city save money.
