The Mount Vernon School District is responding to a report naming them one of three districts in the state facing significant fiscal distress.
The report was released by the State Comptroller's Office.
In a statement, the acting superintendent and the School Board acknowledge the district has significant challenges. They say, while neighboring districts have seen school taxes increase in recent years in step with expenditure increases, Mount Vernon's revenue from taxpayers has barely budged.
The governor's proposed budget decreases funding for the district. They say they'll keep pressing Albany for more aid.
