Police are warning residents in Mount Vernon about a group of men posing as Con Edison workers and scamming people out of money.
Detectives say that so far, there have been at least three victims.
Police say the men had identification on them that appeared to look like they worked for Con Edison. They told residents their sidewalks had to be repaired, then did poor work and forcefully demanded money, investigators say.
"One victim wanted to give them a certain amount of money, and they said, 'We did our work,' and they forcefully scared the people," says Deputy Commissioner Richard Burke, of the Mount Vernon Police Department.
Police say the men travel in a red, unmarked pickup and a red unmarked dump truck with out-of-state license plates.
