Mount Vernon police are investigating the homicide of a Mexican construction worker Saturday.

Police and EMTs rushed to a Jefferson Place apartment at 5:30 a.m. Police say they found a male in his 20s on the fourth-floor in cardiac arrest. The man later died at the hospital. Neighbors believe the man was attacked for his money. They say it isn?t the first time an undocumented worker has been attacked in the area. Many say because the workers get paid in cash, it makes them easy targets.

Friends of the victim say he was only in the country for six months. They are raising money to send his body back home to his parents in Mexico.
