The Mount Vernon Police Department and public library are giving back to the community with a new collaboration.
Crews gathered at the public library this morning for the kickoff of its new health and wellness book collection. It aims to provide resources and support to some of the library's most vulnerable visitors.
That includes homeless re-entry veterans, victims of domestic violence, those struggling with substance abuse and the elderly and youth populations – among others.
The collection will provide a wide variety of activities for these groups, such as a book club focusing on health and well-being, as well as interactive community conversations.
The Mount Vernon School District will also take part in the program. One room will be reserved for students who are either suspended or out of school for another reason so they can continue their studies.
