Mount Vernon officials say a teen shot on an MTA bus over the weekend is the son of Deputy Police Commissioner Jennifer Lackard.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard said in a statement that they are "saddened by this tragic news" and that they are praying for Lackard's family.
Police say the 17-year-old victim was wounded during an apparent gang-related fight with other young people.
It happened on a bus in the Soundview section of the Bronx around 6 p.m. Saturday.
He was shot once in the chest and is in stable condition at a hospital.
There have been no arrests at this point.
