A Mount Vernon man has been charged in a fatal stabbing death outside a corner store last month.
Savion Kirton, of Mount Vernon, was indicted on a murder charge Tuesday in White Plains. The 25-year-old pleaded not guilty, but an indictment released by Westchester County Court says Kirton all but admitted to killing 38-year-old Jermial Rose last month.
Kirton's fiancee says he was protecting her after the victim sexually assaulted her in a corner store just moments before he was fatally stabbed in the neck.
"He fully molested me. I had on leggings he came up on me and just braced his whole self inside of me," says April Burnett, Kirton's fiancee. "It's hard just to know that women being assaulted is normal, it's fine, you know? Nobody really cares."
But the sister of the 38-year-old victim says it's not possible. She says her brother was an innocent man.
"You really took somebody from us that was very well-loved, respected, everybody loved my brother," says Myashia Rose, Jermial's sister. "He'd do anything for anybody."
Emotions ran high outside of Westchester County Court, where both families came face to face.
Kirton is being held at Westchester County Jail on $200,000 bond.
