A manhunt is ongoing for the shooter who killed a 30-year-old man from Harrison.
Mount Vernon police say Dean Daniels was fatally gunned down Monday evening as he was walking in the area of Park and East Prospect avenues in Mount Vernon.
According to Daniels' mother, he had come to visit a friend when the shooting happened about 6 p.m. "That person ran up and snuck in from behind and shot him twice in his back," says Paul Brown.
Despite help from EMTs, the gunshot wounds caused too much damage, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators say they believe Daniels, who leaves behind a 1-year-old son was targeted. Since the shooting, Mount Vernon police have been canvassing the neighborhood on bicycles and in patrol cars.
Police are hoping surveillance cameras in the area may have captured some clues on video that will help bring the killer to justice.
