Supporters of the Mount Vernon Democratic mayoral candidate celebrated her official campaign kickoff Saturday morning.

Democrat Shawyn Patterson-Howard gathered with her fans to officially announce her bid for mayor.

Followers went door-to-door to spread their support for the candidate. They had flyers, bracelets, newsletters and lawn signs as they hit the streets.

Patterson-Howard says her top priorities include improving the city's infrastructure, strengthening community policing and attracting new and diverse businesses.

The candidate says she has a zero-tolerance policy against any petty arguing along her campaign trail. She says the policy would extend into City Hall if she’s elected in November.

Patterson-Howard is running against interim Mayor Andre Wallace in November’s election.

Mayor Wallace came in fourth in the Democratic primary, but decided to run again on the Republican ticket.

News 12 reached out to acting Mayor Wallace to learn more about his campaign plans but has not heard back yet.
