Mount Vernon barbershop owner displaced by fire taken in by salon owner across street

Divas Beauty Salon owner Rosaido Basterdo tookin Monegro's Barbershop Friday morning following the fire at 80 Gramatan Ave. Thursday night, which displaced 14 people.

According to the Department of Buildings in the City of Mount Vernon, the building in its entirety has been deemed "unsafe and dangerous."

Promptly after the fire, the owners of Monegro's Barbershop and Divas Beauty Salon worked together to move what was left in the barbershop into the salon.

Kiara Basterdo, Rosaido Basterdo's daughter, says it warms her heart to see the two friends and business owners combining for the time being.

"My mom has always been the type to give to the people, but this is at a whole new level. I've never seen her do something like this," she said.

Both salons have been working since Friday morning to make space for both businesses and their clientele.

As for the fires, Mount Vernon officials told News 12 that the investigation into these fires is on going as of Sunday night.
